Ambac's Insurance Distribution specialty program business saw strong growth in Q1 2025, with $318M in premium (up 70%) and $63M in revenue (up 27%) year-over-year, primarily driven by the BEAT acquisition.
Organic growth excluding BEAT contracted 2% due to pullbacks in ESL and short-term medical, but would have been nearly 12% excluding those lines; including BEAT, consolidated organic growth would have been approximately 17%.
Everspan's gross premiums written were $87M (down 10% YoY), with an improved loss ratio (66.9% vs. 75.7% YoY) but a higher combined ratio of 102.1% due to increased expense ratio; management expects expense ratio to improve as the business scales.
Ambac reported a net loss from continuing operations of $16M ($0.58/share) and a net loss from discontinued operations of $30M ($0.64/share) in Q1 2025; adjusted EBITDA from continuing operations was a loss of $1M.
Management reiterated its long-term goal of generating $80M–$90M of adjusted EBITDA to common shareholders by 2028, citing strong MGA launches, a diversified business model, and ongoing transformation to a pure-play specialty P&C insurance business.
