The Government of Canada has pledged $20 million to support Electra Battery Materials’ cobalt refinery project. This initiative aims to reduce dependency on foreign cobalt refining, with LG Energy Solution already committed to purchasing 80% of the refinery’s output, enhancing North American supply chain security.34

Electra Battery Materials has deferred interest payments on its senior secured debt until 2027, enabling the company to allocate resources to its cobalt refinery project. This financial restructuring is seen as a critical step in strengthening its position in the growing battery materials market.56
