Rigetti Computing announced a strategic collaboration with Quanta, a Taiwan-based Fortune 500 company, with both parties committing over $100 million each over five years to advance superconducting quantum computing. Quanta will also invest $35 million in Rigetti's common stock, pending regulatory clearance.
Rigetti achieved significant milestones, including the launch of its 84-qubit Anka-3 system and the sale of Novera QPUs to Montana State University and the UK government. The company plans to scale to over 100 qubits by the end of 2025 with a targeted 2x reduction in error rates.
Fourth-quarter 2024 revenue was $2.3 million, down from $3.4 million in Q4 2023, with gross margins declining to 44% due to lower-margin contracts. Operating expenses remained stable at $19.5 million, and the net loss was $153 million, impacted by non-cash derivative liabilities.
Rigetti has approximately $500 million in funding commitments, including cash reserves and Quanta's investment, which is expected to support operations for at least three years. The company remains focused on R&D milestones rather than immediate commercial sales.
Rigetti is optimistic about potential U.S. government funding initiatives, including a $2.5 billion bipartisan bill and DARPA's Quantum Benchmark Initiative, which could provide significant opportunities for future contracts and revenue growth.
