Woodward reported a strong start to fiscal year 2025, with robust demand in Aerospace and core Industrial segments, despite a slight year-over-year decline in Q1 net sales to $773 million (-2%).
Aerospace segment sales grew 7% year-over-year to $494 million, driven by strong commercial aftermarket (+19%) and defense OEM (+21%) growth, while commercial OEM sales were down 10% due to the Boeing work stoppage.
Industrial segment sales declined 15% year-over-year to $279 million, primarily due to a $65 million drop in China on-highway sales, though core industrial sales (excluding China) grew 7%, supported by strength in power generation, oil and gas, and marine transportation.
The company reaffirmed its fiscal 2025 guidance, narrowing adjusted EPS expectations to $5.85-$6.25 and projecting core industrial margins of 14%-15% for the year. Aerospace margins are guided at 20%-21%.
Woodward highlighted strategic moves, including the acquisition of Safran's electromechanical actuation business to enhance its aerospace capabilities and the divestiture of its industrial fuel nozzle product business to focus on core growth areas.
