At its annual Snap Partner Summit, Snapchat unveiled a suite of innovative AI-powered features, including Easy Lens, which allows users to create AR Lenses through text prompts, and Body Morph, a tool for generating 3D characters and outfits, as reported by TechCrunch and The Indian Express.

If you're an avid user of Snapchat, you're likely familiar with Lenses, the application's augmented reality (AR) integration that can insert 3D effects, characters, and objects into your Snaps. Well, the company just declared at the recent Snap Partner Summit held in Santa Monica, California that Lenses would get even more advanced with the upgrade called "Easy Lens"

. Easy Lens will allow users to create their own Lenses just with text prompts. It works by using generative AI models and Lens Studio attributes to process your descriptions and construct a new Lens based on them

. With just a few words, you can have all the AR additions you want with barely any effort! However, if you want to use this new feature, you won't find it on the regular app. It's only accessible on their developer platform

Lens Studio has more for its users as it also adopts "Body Morph", an AI generator that crafts 3D characters and outfits after text captions or reference photos

. If you want to play around with your videos and change your face into a gorilla, frog, or any other 3D model, it's easily possible with this feature

. Its name came from its ability to morph 3D elements into actual human bodies, merging together the two entities to create fun, strange, and silly videos

. It makes use of the existing Lens Studio Skeleton for 3D Body Tracking and blendshapes to fuse animation with reality

Feature #3. My AI Chatbot Update

Snapchat's My AI Chatbot can make web search easier with an update that's much like Google Lens

. You can simply take a photo and ask the AI for questions related to the image

. This same feature is on Google Lens, but what sets My AI Chatbot apart is that it can make language translations just from a picture you provide and you can even ask it for suggestions and further context about your queries

. Google Lens is limited to immediate search and won't explain things to you. The most it can do is redirect you to other sources on its database.

Feature #4. My Selfie AI Edits

Your saved Snaps in your "Memories" are in for a new look. With new AI capabilities, Snapchat's "My Selfie" can browse through your archive and perform its own kind of makeover, automatically applying captions and Lenses to your images and videos

. It can edit photos in a different context such as recreating your picture with a friend and transforming you both into astronauts or some other character

. This gives your old photos a fresh vibe that your Snapchat friends haven't seen before.

Feature #5. Snap AI Video Generation

To keep up with the demand for generative AI, Snapchat will be launching Snap AI Video where users can finally produce clips from text inputs

. Snapchat also ensures everyone that video generation from image prompts will be added soon

. This AI tool is powered by Snap's own video models

. A watermark will also appear once someone shares or downloads the AI-generated videos

Closing Thoughts on Snapchat’s New AI Features

Snapchat is going all out with new features to match up to its social media rivals. This big move indicates that they want to stay in the game by tapping into artificial intelligence to make their app even better and more appealing to their current and prospective audience.

Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap Inc., summarized everything with his statement at the 2024 summit: "Our AI Lenses are already some of the most used Lenses on Snapchat, and our on-devices model will allow us to further scale these experiences with faster generation and lower cost. This year brings many more opportunities to further improve identity preservation in generative Snaps, enable generative video experiences and help people reinterpret and reimagine their [Snapchat] Memories in new ways."
