The Science Behind Kenyan Purple Tea

Kenyan Purple Tea is a unique cultivar of Camellia sinensis developed by the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya over a period of 25 years. The tea leaves naturally produce a brick-red pigment called anthocyanin, the same antioxidant found in blueberries and pomegranates, giving the leaves a distinctive purple color. Anthocyanins have been shown to provide various health benefits, including protection against cardiovascular diseases, improved vision, and better cholesterol and blood sugar metabolism .

Purple tea also contains higher levels of polyphenols compared to black and green teas, as well as catechins like EGCG, a powerful antioxidant found in green tea. Additionally, purple tea contains a special type of polyphenol called GHG, which has been shown to decrease fat mass and thickness while increasing lean body mass in initial research. For those interested in these benefits, TrimFit offers a convenient way to incorporate purple tea into your diet.

Caralluma Fimbriata: Ancient Appetite Suppressant

Caralluma fimbriata, an edible cactus native to India, has been used for centuries as a natural appetite suppressant and thirst quencher. Studies suggest that C. fimbriata extract may help reduce waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio in overweight and obese individuals when combined with dietary control and physical activity. A systematic review of clinical trials found C. fimbriata to be one of only two plant extracts out of 14 studied that had measurable outcomes in reducing appetite or food intake .

Additionally, research indicates that C. fimbriata supplementation can help curb compulsive overeating in children and adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome, without any adverse effects .

L-Theanine: Enhancing Mental Well-being

L-theanine, an amino acid found primarily in tea leaves, has been gaining attention for its potential to promote mental well-being. Studies suggest that L-theanine may help reduce stress-related symptoms, improve sleep quality, and enhance cognitive functions such as verbal fluency and executive function. By increasing levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA, L-theanine can promote relaxation and reduce anxiety without causing drowsiness. While more research is needed to fully understand its effects, L-theanine shows promise as a natural compound that can support mental health and cognitive performance.
