Volkswagen has announced the integration of ChatGPT into its vehicles, making it the first volume manufacturer to offer this feature as a standard. The integration is enabled by Cerence Chat Pro and will be available in the latest generation of infotainment systems in models such as the ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, Tiguan, Passat, and Golf. The ChatGPT integration will allow drivers to control navigation, air conditioning, and infotainment systems via voice control. Additionally, it will enable the IDA voice assistant to answer general knowledge questions and provide more intuitive, back-and-forth language interactions. The system is designed to ensure a high level of data privacy, as it does not gain access to vehicle data, and questions and answers are deleted immediately. The new ChatGPT feature is set to roll out as a standard feature in many Volkswagen production vehicles starting in the second quarter of 2024, initially in Europe. The feature is currently being considered for the US market and is going through the approval process.
